work

first day of work (yesterday) was fine. just busy and (a bit) messy. met gerald [a colleague in the dept] who's heading to aust [nope, not melbourne, but brisbane] to study next feb. so at least there's some common topics to random-chat about. nice knowing noelle too, who's around this age [fresh grad].

i think its quite interesting/scary [depending how u look at it] to work in the treasury&derivatives settlements dept in a french bank. the fact that it is my first time working in a bank makes things a whole lot more scary. but then again, i learnt a lot about settlements just in 1 day - imagine how much i'll learn by the end of this 2-3 months job stint.

basically, i assist the associates/senior associates in checking deals against Reuters Conversations and Internet platforms to ensure counterparty rates, value date, amount, currency and standard settlement instructions are matching etc. haha, sounds cheem right. well, its IS cheem, esp for me who don't know anything about banking and finance [okay la, i know a bit econs which helps a tweeny bit] - i'm a chem engin year 1 only [and not even completing 1 sem =/]. but my colleagues are patient, nice, helpful and easy to get along. and i'm thankful for that.

no checking of hotmail and facebooking though. access to lots of webpages are denied. =x

quite glad to get this job -- not because i'll get to see a handful of hot french guys around in the office, but rather, because the pay is reasonably good - i seriously need to save lots of money for my expenses in aust. okay, i really hate to worry about money issues. it sucks totally. but i can't help worrying since my parents (my mum especially) are worrying too =(.

had lunch with shu yi in sch the day before =D =D =D had some time to spare so i crashed her lecture. sat with royden and john [they were shocked to see me there!]. royden kept asking me to play his psp cause i looked bored. haha - who's the one looking bored man!
oh did i mentioned that i saw seamus in sci library - i was there to settle some lib books stuff. we talked for a pretty long time. he was really funny - i laughed quite loud as usual (hoped we didn't disturb any doctors/sci students who were studying). i told seamus i bet that he's happy that he need not fetch me home from sch anymore. his reaction/reply was really funny. HAHA. okay la, shall admit that he's really nice.

ben's back in sg already! shall meet him soon to hear more about his pilot training/test. cool.

i'm going to watch 毒爱 [korean drama] now. yayness.

random

random #1
i've been asking wai ling [sis's best friend who is currently studying in melbourne] for advice on accomodation etc. and i guess i have not much of a choice cause rent in the city is more or less the same - its all v costly. quite decided on which one to stay already. though its one of the better ones but here's some warnings from wai ling:
"(the apartment) fire alarm gets triggered very easily. so if you plan to cook often, that may be an issue. heh. not only that, the wardrobe is IN the kitchen"

AND the thing is, i intend to cook almost all my meals. =x

foodwise... she says,
"cos meals on average costs about $7.50,so $10 for city pricing is considered reasonable" and ... "the food from food court is usually too salty or starchy so you end up being full cos you're sick of the food, not because it really fills u."

well, i guess that happens everywhere, even in singapore, right? ha.

decided

yup, all have been decided. i've already accepted the offer.

breaking the news to my friends can really be quite difficult. actually, i guess it really depends on who. and to me, it really matters who i should inform first. can't possibly inform a german classmate (whom i've only known for only a few weeks) first before informing my really close friend like shuyi, right. i informed some friends in nus first, cause i don't want them to wonder where i've gone once they don't see me around in sch most prob from next week onwards. its really fast! cause this week is sort of my last week in sch [and omg, today's already wed!]. strictly speaking, i only get to see my friends for 2 more days after breaking the news on mon since tues and wed we don't meet.

i'm already feeling so sad! =( i'm going to miss my new friends so much! i must say i've made a bunch of close friends [i think we are pretty close, considering the fact that in uni, everyone roams around to take their own mods]. although all my new/close friends are all guys [where's all the engin girls!], i thought they are really nice and i didn't really feel like i'm the only girl in the group [except maybe when i get to meet shuyi in sch, and i'll start talking so much to her about things that wouldn't seem right to talk about infront of the guys]. and they bully me less as compared to when i'm with girl friends like jo. ha. i really depend on the guys a lot, cause they are smart so anything i don't understand, i'll ask them. when i told sean about the decision, he said they will be mugging double integration while i'm going to learn to extract wisdom tooth. hahha.

i really feel that its kind of a pity to leave nus like that [but i'm telling myself, i'm going to look forward, not going to look back]. i'm sort of settled down in chem engin - whether is it friends or academics. i actually feel quite proud of my midterm results [not that its fantastic, its just meets my expectations] and i must say chem engin is really v competitive. the average score for MLE is 75%, so if there's not going to be moderation[the bell curve thingy], then i guess almost everyone will be getting an A - and the thing is that, the paper wasn't that easy. perhaps i'm going to miss the competitiveness [or simply just, kiasu-ness] here in singapore once i study in aust. ha, but who knows, maybe its going to be competitive there also.

i faithfully completed my german test today though i know the marks i get won't matter anymore [after all, any stuff that i do in nus now doesn't matter anymore].well, i'll miss german! i'll miss mr doepel. he's so cute la! he's always doing some silly actions that makes the whole class laugh.

lots of things to arrange. sigh. [and oh ya, someone has really pissed me off the past 2 days =x]
